Fishnets are a part of fishing gear that is not compulsory but is very handy, especially for beginners. There are a variety of fishnets that catch fish in different ways. One of the most popular nets is the purse seine. Fishes are caught in it by first encircling them in large numbers and then closing the bottom of the net with a line, after which the entire net is brought into a ship.
Gill nets are vertical nets that have floaters attached to the upper part and at the bottom. Fish are caught in it when they try to pass through it.
Tangle nets are gillnet-like with a smaller mesh size. Fishes are caught in the trap by their teeth and fins, not their gills. Another type of gillnet is the trammel. It comprises three layers: a more fine mesh layer sandwiched between two layers of giant mesh. It is hung vertically to catch fish.
Lift nets are placed in the body of water horizontally facing up. When fish are caught in it, the yields are lifted by hand despite their size. Finally, a cast net is a small round net (13 feet) with weights at its edge thrown by hand and used to catch small fish.
